Influencer Marketing ROI Calculator

Influencer ROAS is attributed revenue divided by total campaign cost, and ROI is the net return on that cost. Add every cost, including gifted product and commission, and your gross margin to see whether the campaign made money.

Calculator

For campaigns where you can attribute revenue, paid or gifted. Results update as you type and your inputs are saved in the page URL. Nothing is sent anywhere. Gifting-only and no revenue figure yet? Use the gifting ROI calculator, which works out cost per piece of content instead.

Your campaign

Starting values are placeholders so there is a result to show. Replace every one with your own.

Cost of gifted units only, not units sold.

From codes, tracked links and surveys.

After product, shipping and payment fees.

Leave at 0 to skip. EMV is an estimate of exposure value, not revenue.

Gross profit of $7,200 covers the $4,700 total cost, leaving $2,500. Break-even revenue at these costs is $7,000.

ROI vs ROAS vs EMV

Three numbers get mixed up in influencer reporting. They answer different questions, and only one of them accounts for what your product costs you.

How the three metrics differ
MetricFormulaAnswersWatch out for
ROASAttributed revenue / total costHow much revenue each unit spent returnedIgnores margin, so 3x can still lose money
Revenue ROI(Revenue - cost) / costNet return in revenue termsStill ignores product cost
Profit ROI(Revenue x margin - cost) / costWhether the campaign made moneyDepends on a margin you must estimate
EMVEstimated value of exposure at ad pricesWhat the reach might have cost to buyNot revenue; the formula is a choice, not a measurement

For how EMV is calculated, use the EMV calculator. For gifting campaigns where the question is what each piece of content cost, the gifting ROI calculator is built for that, and this page is for when you have revenue to attribute.

Benchmarks

We looked for a current, primary-sourced ROAS or ROI benchmark for influencer marketing and did not find one we trust, so none is shown. Published averages differ by sample, year and how EMV or revenue was counted. The Influencer Marketing Hub benchmark report is a good source for survey data on budgets and measurement challenges, but it is not a ROAS reference. What you can calculate exactly is your own break-even, which depends only on margin.

Break-even ROAS by gross margin (arithmetic: 1 / margin, before commission)
Gross marginBreak-even ROASROAS for profit equal to cost
30%3.33x6.67x
40%2.50x5.00x
50%2.00x4.00x
60%1.67x3.33x
70%1.43x2.86x
80%1.25x2.50x

Read it as: at a 50% margin you need 2x ROAS just to cover costs, and 4x for gross profit to equal what you spent. Commission paid on sales raises both figures. Use the calculator above for the exact number with your commission included, and the influencer commission calculator to see what rate you can afford. Influencer ROI and ROAS questions

What is a good ROI for influencer marketing?

There is no reliable universal benchmark, and it depends on your margin. Revenue ROI of 0% means revenue equals cost, which loses money once product cost is paid. A campaign is profitable when gross profit exceeds total cost, so judge it by profit ROI and by your break-even revenue shown in the calculator.

What is the difference between ROI and ROAS?

ROAS is revenue divided by spend, so 3x means three units of revenue per unit spent. ROI is net return divided by cost, so it subtracts the cost first. ROAS ignores margin; profit ROI includes it. A campaign can show a healthy ROAS and still lose money on thin margins.

How do I calculate ROAS for an influencer campaign?

Divide attributed revenue by total campaign cost. Count every cost: creator fees, gifted product, shipping, content production, commission and tool fees. Using fees alone flatters the result. This page uses total cost, so its ROAS will be lower than a fees-only version, and more honest.

Should gifted product and commission count as spend?

Yes. Gifted product costs you cash through product cost and shipping, and commission is paid per sale. Both belong in total cost. Product cost here covers gifted units only, because the cost of units sold is already inside your gross margin. Counting it twice would understate profit.

How do I measure revenue from influencers?

Use unique discount codes and tracked links, then add a post-purchase survey for buyers who used neither. Attribution is imperfect and usually undercounts, because people see a post and buy later without a code. Treat attributed revenue as a floor, and see the promo code attribution and UTM tools for setup.

Is earned media value (EMV) the same as ROI?

No. EMV estimates what the exposure would have cost to buy as ads. It is not revenue and not profit, and the formula behind it is a choice, not a measurement. Use it, if at all, as a separate media-value figure next to revenue ROI. The EMV calculator shows how it is computed.

Methodology and sources

Total cost = creator fees + gifted product cost + shipping + content production + agency and tool fees + (attributed revenue x commission %). ROAS = attributed revenue / total cost. Revenue ROI = (revenue - cost) / cost. Profit ROI = (revenue x gross margin - cost) / cost. Break-even revenue = non-commission cost / (gross margin - commission %), shown only when margin exceeds commission. Cost per order = total cost / attributed orders.

Gross margin should already include the cost of the units sold, which is why gifted product is the only product cost entered separately. All defaults are illustrative starting assumptions, not Seed data or industry benchmarks. Not modelled: customer lifetime value, halo effects on unattributed sales, returns, tax, and discounts beyond what is already in your revenue figure. Attributed revenue usually undercounts true impact. Last checked against the cited report: October 29, 2026.
