What not to put in a gifting brief

A gift is a favour, not a job. A brief that reads like a work order tends to get ignored. For the legal side of disclosure, read the guide to influencer disclosure rules by country. For terms, use a proper gifting agreement.

  • A word-for-word script. It makes the post read like an ad and takes the voice that made you want this creator. Give key messages, not lines.
  • Hidden conditions. Exclusivity, long deliverable lists or content ownership for a free gift should never appear for the first time in a brief. If you need them, agree them up front in writing.
  • Claims you cannot back up. If you would not put a claim on your own product page, do not ask a creator to say it.
  • A request to hide the gift. Never ask a creator to leave out that the product was free. Rules differ by country, but disclosure is expected in many of them.
  • Vague deadlines. "Soon" is not a deadline. Give a number of days from delivery, and tell the creator what happens if they are late.
  • Legal terms in a gift brief. A brief is guidance, not a contract. For usage rights, payment or exclusivity, use a written agreement such as one from the contract generator.

Frequently asked questions

What goes in an influencer brief?

A short brief covers the product and goal, what to make and where to post it, three or so key messages, dos and don'ts, tags and links, how to disclose the gift, usage rights, the deadline and a contact. Keep it to one page so creators read it, and leave room for their own style.

How long should an influencer brief be?

One page is a good target. A creator should be able to read it in a couple of minutes and know what to make, by when, and what to avoid. If you need much more than that, move the detail into a separate agreement and keep the brief itself short.

Is a gifting brief the same as a contract?

No. A brief explains what you would like and why. A contract sets out legally binding terms such as payment, exclusivity and how you may reuse the content. If either side cares about those terms, put them in writing in an agreement and link it from the brief.

Does this generator use AI?

No. It is a fixed template that drops your answers into set sections in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored, apart from the settings in this page's link if you copy it. The starting values are editable placeholders, not recommendations from data.

Methodology and sources

The brief is built by a fixed template in your browser: your answers go into set sections and empty sections are dropped. There is no AI step and nothing is uploaded. The default section contents, the niche presets and the 14-day posting window are Seed's own editable suggestions, not measured data or an industry standard.

The disclosure wording follows the FTC's guidance that free products from a brand are a connection a creator should disclose, and that the disclosure should be hard to miss. Rules differ by country and platform, and this page is not legal advice. Ask your own adviser what applies to you.
