Bulk Discount Code Generator

Set a prefix and a count, and get a list of unique discount codes as a CSV, one per creator. Shopify doesn't document a native CSV import, so the page below also shows the two routes that work.

Your settings

Settings are saved in the page URL. The codes themselves are random each time and are never stored.

Off by default: Shopify advises avoiding special characters in code names.

Your codes

50 unique codes (example, press Regenerate for your own). Unique within this batch only.

Importing codes into Shopify

Be clear on what is and is not verified. Shopify's discount codes help page describes creating codes in admin and gives the store-wide cap of 20,000,000 unique codes. It does not document a bulk-generate or CSV-import button, and merchants in Shopify's community report there is no native bulk generator. In practice you have two routes:

Ways to add many discount codes to Shopify
RouteVolumeWhat you need
Admin, one by oneA few codesDiscounts > create discount, type each code
Bulk-codes appDepends on the app and planAn app from the Shopify App Store. Use this page's CSV or the one-per-line list in the format the app's import asks for
Admin GraphQL APIUp to 250 codes per callA custom app or script calling discountRedeemCodeBulkAdd. The "Copy API batches" button prints the codes argument in chunks of 250

Our CSV has a single code column (plus a creator column in named mode). Remove the header or the extra column if your app wants a bare list. Bulk-added codes all hang off the one discount you attach them to, so they share its rules: percentage, dates, products and usage limits.

Naming codes for influencer attribution

A code that is easy to say and type gets used. A code that is traceable to one creator tells you who sent the sale. Both matter.

  • Named codes for ambassadors. A handle-based code such as CREATOR-SARAH is memorable on a story or in a caption.
  • Random codes for one-off drops. Unique per recipient, harder to leak to coupon sites.
  • Skip lookalike characters. The default character set omits I, O, 0 and 1 so codes survive being read aloud or typed from a screenshot.
  • Log who has which code. Keep the CSV next to your influencer tracking spreadsheet.

Codes undercount: some buyers click a link and never type the code. See how much with the promo code attribution calculator, and tag the links you give creators with the influencer UTM builder. If you pay creators per sale, the commission calculator turns redemptions into payouts.

How many random codes fit in a code space

Collisions are avoided by rejecting duplicates, but the random part must be long enough to leave room. This table is plain arithmetic: characters to the power of length.

Possible combinations by character set and length
Character set4 long5 long6 long8 long
Digits (10 characters)10,000100,0001,000,000100,000,000
Letters (26)456,97611,881,376308,915,776208,827,064,576
Letters and digits (36)1,679,61660,466,1762,176,782,3362,821,109,907,456
No-lookalike set (32)1,048,57633,554,4321,073,741,8241,099,511,627,776

The generator refuses a count above half of the available combinations.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create unique discount codes in Shopify?

In Shopify admin, open Discounts and create a discount with its own code. That works for a handful. For hundreds, generate the list here, then add it with a bulk-codes app or the Admin GraphQL API, which accepts up to 250 codes per call. Shopify caps a store at 20,000,000 unique codes.

Should each influencer get their own code?

Usually yes. A code per creator is the simplest way to see which creator drove an order, and you can retire one code without touching the others. Codes only catch people who type them in, so pair them with tagged links and treat the count as a minimum.

Are these codes really random and private?

Random characters come from your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, with unbiased selection, and everything runs locally. Nothing is uploaded. Codes are unique within the batch only. The tool cannot see your store, so Shopify may reject a code that already exists there.

Does Shopify have a CSV import for discount codes?

I could not find an official Shopify help page that documents a native bulk-generate or CSV-import button in the admin, and merchants in Shopify's community report none. Third-party bulk-code apps typically take a column of codes. Check the import template of the app you choose.

Methodology and sources

Each random character is chosen with crypto.getRandomValues and rejection sampling, so every character is equally likely. Codes are built as prefix + optional hyphen + random part + suffix, upper-cased and stripped to A-Z and 0-9. Duplicates inside the batch are discarded and redrawn. Nothing is sent to a server.

Not verified: the exact import columns of any given third-party app. Check its template before importing. Last updated: October 29, 2026
