The formula and where each number comes from

total views = (feed posts + reels or videos) × avg views + stories × avg story views

cash range = total views ÷ 1,000 × CPM, low to high

with usage rights: low × 1.30, high × 2.00

verdict = gift value at retail vs the cash range (the gap is your fee)

We do not invent rates. The ranges below come from two of our own guides. They are working ranges for paid posts, not figures measured from Seed orders. We have no measured CPM data of our own yet.

Tiers follow the guide's Instagram follower bands: nano 1K to 10K, micro 10K to 100K, mid-tier 100K to 500K, macro 500K and up. The guide gives no TikTok bands, so we reuse them. The guide gives no separate range for stories, so the calculator applies the same CPM to story views.

How creators set their price

Most creators start with one question: what are 1,000 of my views worth? That price is the CPM, short for cost per thousand views. A creator who gets 10,000 views and quotes a $20 CPM asks for about $200. Bigger accounts, tight niches, and video push the CPM up. Small accounts and broad content pull it down. Our guide to what a good influencer CPM looks like goes deeper.

That is why we use views, not followers. Not sure how engaged the audience is? Check the engagement rate first.

When a gift alone is a fair trade

A gift-only offer works when most of these are true:

  • The retail price of the gift is at or above the cash range for the post.
  • You ask for one post, not a bundle.
  • You are not asking for usage rights, a script, or a hard deadline.
  • The creator already uses, or would buy, the product.

Pay when the gift falls short of the range, when the creator has a large audience, or when you want control over the content. Never make a post a condition of the gift. A required post is a paid deal. If a creator asks for a fee, our post on what to do when a creator asks to be paid has replies you can copy. To see what a gift really costs you, use the gifting ROI calculator or read how much influencer gifting costs.

Usage rights cost extra

Sending a gift does not give you the right to run the creator's video as an ad. That is a separate permission, and creators price it separately. Our guide to gifting versus paid sponsorships puts the usual add-on at 30% to 100% of the post fee, for a set window like 90 days. Tick the usage rights box to see the effect. Then ask for rights in writing, and put the terms in a free contract.

Two worked examples

Example 1. An Instagram creator has 25,000 followers (micro tier, $15 to $35 CPM) and gets 8,000 views on a Reel. That is 8 × $15 = $120 and 8 × $35 = $280. Your gift sells for $40 and costs you $18 landed. The gift is 33% of the low end ($40 ÷ $120), so add a fee of $80 to $240, or ask for less. If you also want usage rights, the range becomes $156 to $560 ($120 × 1.30 and $280 × 2.00).

Example 2. A TikTok creator has 4,000 followers (nano tier, $5 to $20 CPM) and gets 3,000 views on a video. That is 3 × $5 = $15 and 3 × $20 = $60. Your gift sells for $70, which covers the top of the range, so a gift alone is a fair trade. It costs you $25 landed.

Questions about influencer rates

How much should I pay an influencer?

Start with views, not followers. Multiply the creator's average views by your CPM (the price of 1,000 views) and divide by 1,000. For example, 8,000 views at a $15 to $35 CPM is $120 to $280. Then add 30% to 100% if you want the right to run the post as an ad.

What is a good CPM for an influencer post?

Our CPM guide lists $10 to $20 for Instagram nano creators, $15 to $35 for micro, $25 to $60 for mid-tier, and $40 to $150 or more for macro. TikTok runs lower at the small end ($5 to $20) and YouTube higher ($10 to $80). These are working ranges for paid posts, not measured Seed data.

Is a free product enough to ask for a post?

Sometimes. If the retail price of the gift is at or above the cash range for the post, a gift-only offer is fair. If it falls short, add a fee or ask for less. Never require a post for a gift. A required post is a paid deal.

How much do usage rights add to the price?

Our guide to gifting versus paid sponsorships says usage rights usually add 30% to 100% on top of the post fee, for a set window such as 90 days. The calculator applies that range when you tick the usage rights box.

Should I use followers or views to set a rate?

Views. Followers only pick the tier, which picks the CPM range. Two creators with 50,000 followers can get 3,000 or 30,000 views per post, and that is a 10x gap in what a post is worth.
