Follower Growth Rate Calculator

Follower growth rate is (ending followers - starting followers) / starting followers x 100. Going from 10,000 to 12,500 followers is +25%. Enter your numbers below, then add dated checkpoints to spot unusual spikes.

Calculator

Enter followers at the start and end of a period, plus the number of days. Add dated checkpoints below to see which intervals grew unusually fast. Everything recalculates as you type.

Growth over a period

Public follower counts only. You can type 12.5k.

Spike check (optional)

One checkpoint per line: date as YYYY-MM-DD, then followers. The lines below are illustrative example numbers, not a real account. Replace them with your own.

A rule of thumb for where to look, not a detection threshold. 3x is a starting point.

What spikes mean

A spike tells you where to look, not what happened. These are the patterns worth a closer look and the checks that separate a good week from a bought one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good follower growth rate?

We could not verify a primary-source benchmark we trust, so this page does not publish one. Published growth figures vary widely by platform, account size and how they are measured. A more useful test is whether growth is steady, matches the creator's posting activity, and comes with engagement that rises with it.

How do you calculate follower growth rate?

Subtract starting followers from ending followers, divide by the starting followers, and multiply by 100. Going from 10,000 to 12,500 followers is +2,500, or 25%. To compare periods of different length, convert to a per-day or compound daily rate, which this calculator shows alongside the simple percentage.

What does a sudden follower spike mean?

It can be benign, such as a viral post, a feature, a giveaway or a shoutout. It can also be purchased followers. A spike alone proves nothing. Look at what the creator posted that week, whether engagement and views rose with the audience, and whether the new followers came from the right countries.

Can follower growth rate prove a creator bought followers?

No. It only shows when the audience changed unusually, so you know where to look. Pair it with engagement by followers, comment quality and audience location screenshots. A jump followed by flat engagement and a partial drop is worth asking the creator about, but ask before assuming.

Which period should I measure growth over?

Use the same window for every creator you compare, such as 30 or 90 days, ending on a recent date. Short windows swing on a single viral post, while long ones hide recent changes. The checkpoint box lets you enter several dates so you can see growth per interval, not just one overall number.

Methodology and sources

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Total growth % = (end - start) / start x 100. Average gain per day = (end - start) / days. Simple daily rate = total growth % / days. Compound daily rate = (end / start)^(1 / days) - 1. The 30-day equivalent and projection use that same compound rate: (end / start)^(30 / days) - 1.

Spike check: for each pair of consecutive dated checkpoints, gain per day = change / days between. The median gain per day across all intervals is the baseline. An interval is flagged when its gain per day is at least the chosen multiple of that median (default 3x, an editable assumption) and the account gained followers. It needs at least three intervals and a positive median. A negative interval is labelled as lost followers.

  • Formulas are standard percentage-change and compound-growth arithmetic. There is no external data source, and the example checkpoints are invented illustrations, not a real account.
  • We looked for a primary-source benchmark for a good follower growth rate and found only second-hand, inconsistent figures, so none is shown. Compare a creator against their own history and against peers measured over the same window.

A flag is a prompt to investigate, not proof of purchased followers. Not a verdict on any person or account.
