Influencer Brand Fit Checklist

Answer eight questions about a creator and get a fit score out of 100, weighted by what matters to you. By default 75 or more is a strong fit, 50 to 74 is worth a small test gift and below 50 is a skip. The example answers below score 68: worth a small test gift.

Your answers

The starting answers describe an imaginary creator. Replace every one with what you see on the real profile.

What matters most to you
1. Would the people who follow this creator plausibly buy from you?
2. Does their feed look like a place your product belongs?
3. Could they use your product naturally in content they already make?
4. Do their values and tone match how your brand shows up?
5. Do their sponsored or gifted posts look credible and clearly labelled?
6. Do the comments look like real people reacting to the content?
7. Do they post regularly enough to still be active when your parcel lands?
8. Can you ship to where they live at a cost that works?

What each question is worth

Each question carries a share of 100 points. A yes earns all of them, partly earns half and no earns none. Pick the preset that matches your priority: audience first puts 35 points on whether the creator's followers are your customers, while brand safety first puts more on values, credibility and engagement. These weights are our design choice, not research findings.

The score is only as good as your answers, so check the engagement behind each one with the engagement rate calculator. If you are unsure of a creator's size category, the influencer tiers guide sets out the common definitions.

What to do after you score a creator

Strong fits go on your outreach list. Worth-a-test creators suit a small first wave, which you can size with the how many influencers to gift calculator and schedule with the gifting campaign planner. Skips are not permanent: revisit a creator when their content, audience or your range changes. If a creator you like asks for a fee, the influencer rate calculator gives you a number to react to.

When you are ready to send, Seed gives each creator one branded link where they pick a product and type their address, and a real $0 draft order lands in your Shopify admin.

Questions about influencer brand fit

What makes an influencer a good brand fit?

A good fit is a creator whose audience would plausibly buy from you, whose style suits your product and whose values do not clash with yours. Follower count matters less. This checklist turns those ideas into eight questions with weights, so you compare creators on the same terms instead of on a gut feeling.

What score should an influencer reach before I gift them?

Our default cut-offs are 75 for a strong fit and 50 for a small test gift, but they are our own starting points, not an industry standard. Set them to match how selective you want to be. A tighter budget usually calls for a higher bar, a larger one for a lower bar.

What are dealbreakers in the checklist?

Dealbreakers override the score. If a creator has a current competitor deal, content that clashes with your values, or an audience that looks bought, the verdict becomes pass regardless of points. Tick them only for facts you have actually checked. They are three examples, so keep your own list alongside this one.

Can the weights be changed?

Not freely, but you can switch between three presets: balanced, audience first and brand safety first. Each shifts how many of the 100 points every question carries, and the weights table on this page shows each number. Answers use fixed values (yes 1, partly 0.5, no 0), so the score is easy to check by hand.

How do I check audience overlap without paid tools?

Read who comments, look at the creator's tagged posts and replies, and compare the people engaging with the people who already buy from you. It is slower than a paid tool and less precise, but it is free and often enough to answer partly or no. Note what you looked at.

Does a high score guarantee they will post?

No. The score measures fit, not behaviour. A well-matched creator may still not post, and a weaker one might. Use it to decide who to contact, then track real results with your own post rate. The how many influencers to gift calculator turns that rate into the number of creators to contact.

Methodology and sources

The checklist is deterministic arithmetic that runs in your browser. It does not call an AI model, fetch creator data or use any third-party source:

points per question = weight × answer value (yes 1, partly 0.5, no 0)

fit score = sum of points across the eight questions, out of 100

verdict = pass if any dealbreaker is ticked; otherwise strong fit at or above the strong threshold, a test gift at or above the test threshold, and skip below it

The eight questions, their weights, the answer values and the default thresholds of 75 and 50 are our own design choices, chosen to be simple to check by hand. They are not industry benchmarks, validated predictors or measured Seed statistics, and the example answers describe an imaginary creator. A high score does not guarantee a post, and a low one does not prove a creator is bad. See the Seed blog for more on running gifting campaigns.
