To automate influencer gifting on Shopify, put a gifting-operations tool between a creator's yes and your fulfillment. With Seed, you send one link, the creator picks the product and size and types their own address, and a tagged $0 draft order lands in your admin. Delivery and post tracking follow from Shopify's own webhooks. What stays manual on purpose: finding creators, the outreach message, and the approval click.
Here is the whole chain, step by step, with what is automatic at each one and what isn't.
The automated chain in one table
| Step | Who does it | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Find a creator | A person | Your founder, intern or VA, on Instagram, TikTok or your own customer list |
| 2. Send the offer | A person | A DM or email in your own voice, ending with the gift link |
| 3. Creator picks and types | Automatic | Product and variant with images and live stock, plus the creator's own address, on a branded link |
| 4. Approval | A person, one click | With gate-first approval on, nothing becomes an order until someone approves |
| 5. Order creation | Automatic | A real $0 Shopify draft order, tagged by campaign |
| 6. Fulfillment | Your existing process | Your 3PL, ShipStation or warehouse picks it up as a normal order |
| 7. Shipping email | Automatic | Seed reads Shopify's fulfillment event and emails the creator |
| 8. Delivery follow-up | Automatic | Seed reads Shopify's delivery webhook, then sends a follow-up and a post reminder |
| 9. Post tracking | Automatic | Content tracking finds posts on Instagram and TikTok; the creator moves across a Kanban board |
| 10. Thank-you | Automatic | A thank-you email once content is in, if you've switched it on |
Each creator email is a toggle, not a fixed sequence. Switch off what you don't want.
Before and after, per creator
In our experience, the manual version of steps 3 to 9 costs you, per creator: 3 to 8 DM round-trips for product, size and address; 5 to 10 minutes hand-typing the draft order; a spreadsheet update at each stage; an address fix now and then; and a chase to see whether they posted. The automated version is: paste the link, click approve, and look at the board. That is the whole difference, and it is a count of steps, not a percentage. We don't have a measured time saving to give you, so we don't give one.
For the 100%-off-code version of this problem, see how to create $0 gift orders in Shopify. For the manual workflow this replaces, see how to send free products to influencers on Shopify.
Order creation without typing
The creator submits the form. Seed creates the draft order through Shopify's Admin API, with the real variant, the creator's address, the price set to zero and the tags applied. It is a real order once approved, with a real order number. It never goes through storefront checkout, so no $0 purchase event fires to Meta or GA4 and your conversion rate and average order value stay clean.
The alternative most brands try first is a 100%-off discount code. It is faster to set up and it leaks: codes get posted in creator group chats and on coupon sites, and then anyone can order for free. hiccpet moved off coupon codes and now ships about 19 gifts a week through Seed links. The full story is in the hiccpet case study.
Auto-tags with campaign and creator
Every order carries a seed-gift tag, a campaign tag and a gift-link tag. You can add custom order tags and customer tags to a campaign, and the creator's customer record is tagged seed-creator. That gives you three things without any manual work: a one-click filter to remove gifts from your reports (see stop gift orders skewing Shopify analytics), a way for fulfillment to route gifts (see sending gift orders to ShipStation or a 3PL), and a list of everyone you've ever gifted. Paid plans support multiple campaigns per shop, each with its own link, product pool and tags.
Post-delivery automation from Shopify webhooks
This is the step that most hand-built setups never reach. Shopify tells Seed when the parcel is fulfilled and when it is delivered. Seed uses the delivery event to start the follow-up clock, instead of guessing a date. The creator gets a follow-up, then a post reminder, and content tracking watches Instagram and TikTok for the post. The details are in what happens after the gift ships. If you also want long-running flows, Seed's Klaviyo integration covers that; see connecting influencer gifting to Klaviyo.
100 creators a month without spreadsheets
At a few creators a month the spreadsheet is fine. At 100, the columns (handle, size, address, order number, tracking, post link) go stale faster than anyone updates them. Here the orders, tags and Kanban stages are the record. Dr Water ran 138 gifts in 46 days on Seed's done-for-you service. Bri Beauty placed 43 gift orders in its first week. Those are two customers, not a benchmark for your store, but neither needed a spreadsheet as the system of record.

What stays manual on purpose
- Finding creators. It is judgment work. A database gives filters, not fit. Someone who knows your brand should do it.
- The outreach message. It should sound like you. Seed doesn't automate DMs.
- The approval click. Gate-first approval is there so a person decides what ships. It takes seconds per gift, and it is the reason no gift you didn't want ever becomes an order.
- Paid deals, contracts and affiliate payouts. Seed does none of them.
Who should not pick Seed
If you gift fewer than about 5 products a month, a hand-made draft order is simpler and free. If you need discovery, contracts, affiliate payouts or paid-deal management, GRIN (listed at $0 to $1,500 a month on 2026-08-19) or Modash (which also does Shopify-connected gifting) is the closer fit. If you want to pay per completed post, Stack Influence is about $30 a post with no monthly fee. Seed has 5.0 stars on a small number of App Store reviews (3), so run the 7-day trial before committing.
What to do next
Plans are $79 a month (Starter, 50 gift orders), $199 (Seed, unlimited) and $299 (Concierge, done-for-you), at /pricing. Install it from apps.shopify.com/influencer-form and run your next five creators through the link.
Frequently asked questions
What can you automate in influencer gifting on Shopify?
Everything after a creator says yes: collecting product, variant and address, creating the $0 draft order, tagging it by campaign, sending the creator order and shipping emails, reading Shopify's delivery webhook, sending a follow-up and a post reminder, and finding the post on Instagram or TikTok. Finding creators, writing the outreach and approving each gift stay manual.
Can Shopify create $0 gift orders automatically without a discount code?
Not on its own. Shopify's admin lets you build a draft order by hand. An app like Seed creates the draft order from the creator's own submission through the Admin API, with the price zeroed and the tags applied, so there is no code to leak and no checkout session to skew analytics.
Does Seed automate outreach or DMs?
No. Your team finds creators and sends the first message in your own voice. Seed starts when you paste the gift link. It sends creator emails (order placed, shipped, delivered follow-up, post reminder, thank-you), each of which you can switch on or off, but it does not send Instagram or TikTok DMs.
How do gifted orders get tagged automatically?
Every Seed order is tagged seed-gift plus a campaign tag, and campaigns can add custom order tags and customer tags. The creator's customer record is tagged too, so you can filter gifts out of reports or build a segment of every gifted creator.
How many creators a month can this handle without spreadsheets?
The Seed plan is unlimited gift orders, and Starter is 50 a month. Dr Water ran 138 gifts in 46 days on Seed's done-for-you service and hiccpet ships about 19 a week. The tagged orders and the Kanban board replace the spreadsheet at those volumes.
