Open Sidekick in your Shopify admin and say "create a gifting campaign". With Seed installed, Sidekick asks which products you want to send and how many one creator can order, then opens Seed's create-campaign screen with those answers filled in. You review it and click Create campaign. Sidekick never saves anything itself, and your gift link appears on the next screen.

This is the action half of Seed's Sidekick integration. For the overview, start with how to use Shopify Sidekick for influencer gifting. For the read-only half, see asking Sidekick how your gifting is doing.

The flow, step by step

  1. Open Sidekick in the Shopify admin and start a new chat. A fresh chat avoids the "tool not found" message that sometimes shows for a few minutes after an app update.
  2. Say what you want, in your own words: "create a gifting campaign", "send free product to creators" or "set up a seeding link for my new launch". All three describe the same thing.
  3. Answer question one: broadly, which products do you want to send out in this gifting form?
  4. Answer question two: how many products should a creator be able to order in one order?
  5. Sidekick opens Seed's create-campaign screen inside your Shopify admin, prefilled with your answers.
  6. Review the screen. Change anything you like.
  7. Click Create campaign.
  8. Copy your gift link from the screen Seed shows next, and share it with creators.

The two questions, and why only two

Sidekick is told to ask exactly two things and nothing else. It does not ask for a creator's name or handle, because this action creates one shared gifting link that any creator you send it to can use, not a per-creator invite. It does not ask about the campaign name, approval settings, shipping countries, form fields or emails. Seed fills those in with its own defaults, and you can change them on the review screen.

On the product question, Sidekick matches your wording against your real Shopify catalog and passes the actual products to Seed. If you say "the new serum" and it matches one product, that product is selected. If it cannot match confidently, it does not guess. You pick on the screen. On the quantity question, if you have no opinion, leave it blank and Seed defaults to one per order.

Choosing that number is a real decision. One per order is the safe default for a single hero product. If your gift is a bundle of separate products you want a creator to take together, a higher number lets them pick several. For ideas on what a creator should be able to choose, how to send free products to influencers on Shopify walks through the options.

The prefilled screen

What opens is the ordinary create-campaign screen from the Seed app. Sidekick does not have a separate version. That matters for two reasons. First, anything you could do by creating a campaign by hand, you can do here: rename it, change products, adjust settings. Second, the same checks apply. If your plan has a campaign limit and you are at it, the screen tells you so and asks you to upgrade, exactly as it would without Sidekick. See the pricing page for plan limits.

If you named one product, the campaign is named after it. If you named several, Seed names it with the date. Rename it if you plan to run more than one campaign at once. Running multiple gifting campaigns by collection covers how to organise that.

Why the Create click stays with you

Shopify does not allow a Sidekick action to commit a change silently. An action can take you to the right place with the right values. It cannot press the button. We built Seed's action around that rule instead of working around it.

In practice the click is a feature. A gifting campaign is the thing you will hand to creators. A wrong product or a per-order limit of ten instead of one means free stock walking out the door. One review screen before it goes live is a cheap check. Sidekick is also told never to say the campaign has been created before you click, so you will not be misled about its status.

After you click Create

Seed takes you to its share screen, which shows the live campaign and the gift link, ready to copy. That is where the link comes from. Sidekick does not construct or offer a link in the chat. If one ever appears there, do not use it.

From here the normal Seed process runs. A creator opens the link, picks a product and variant, and types their own address. The result is a real $0 draft order in your Shopify admin, tagged by campaign, which then goes through your usual fulfilment. What happens after the gift ships covers the part after the box leaves.

What this does not do

  • It does not create per-creator links. Those are separate, single-use links managed in Seed, though Sidekick can look them up.
  • It does not create corporate gifting campaigns. Corporate gifting is managed inside the Seed app.
  • It does not edit, pause or delete a campaign you already have.
  • It does not tell you whether a product is a good fit for gifting. That is your call.

If you are doing one campaign a quarter, creating it directly in Seed is about as quick. The Sidekick route earns its place when you are already in a chat asking about results and want to start the next campaign without switching screens. Install Seed from the Shopify App Store to try it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a gifting campaign with Shopify Sidekick?

Open Sidekick in your Shopify admin and say "create a gifting campaign". Answer two questions: which products to send, and how many a creator can order at once. Sidekick opens Seed's create-campaign screen prefilled. You review it and click Create campaign.

Does Sidekick save the campaign for me?

No. Sidekick only opens the prefilled screen. Shopify does not allow Sidekick to commit changes silently, so you always click Create yourself. Sidekick should never tell you the campaign already exists before you do.

On the screen Seed shows right after you click Create. It displays your gift link ready to copy and share with creators. Sidekick does not generate or send you a link in the chat.

What if Sidekick cannot match my product?

It is told not to guess product IDs. If it cannot confidently match your wording to a product in your catalog, you pick the product on the create screen yourself.

Can I change the prefilled answers before creating?

Yes. It is the same create-campaign screen everyone uses in Seed, so you can change the products, the per-order quantity and any other setting before you click Create.

Can Sidekick edit or delete a campaign I already made?

No. The Sidekick action only starts a new campaign. Editing, pausing or deleting a campaign is done inside Seed from your Shopify admin sidebar.
