# How to know when it's time to upgrade your Seed plan

Reading your own gifting volume to pick a plan before you're forced to, not after you hit the wall.

## The goal

The right time to upgrade isn't the moment you hit your order cap mid-send, it's before that, once your gifting has a real, repeatable rhythm to it. Picking a plan that matches where you actually are avoids two different failure modes: running out of orders in the middle of a wave, or paying for capacity and features you're not using yet.

## How most brands do it

Most brands start on Free because it's free, keep sending links past the point their volume outgrew it, and only notice when a batch of orders gets blocked mid-send, often right after they've already told a group of creators their gifts are on the way. That's a bad moment to be sorting out billing: it stalls the send, and it looks disorganized to creators who are now waiting. On the other side, some brands overcorrect and jump straight to the top plan "just in case," paying for unlimited orders they won't use for months.

## How experienced teams do it

Teams running gifting as an ongoing channel treat the plan choice as a function of cadence, not a one-time decision. If gifting is occasional, a handful of creators around a launch. Free covers a real first test without any commitment. The moment gifting becomes routine (a standing monthly batch, not a one-off), that's the signal to move to a paid plan, because a lapsed link mid-wave costs more in creator goodwill than the subscription does. And the jump from Starter to Seed is a volume call, not a features call: every paid tier has the same feature set, so the only real question is whether your monthly order count is bumping up against Starter's limit often enough that upgrading saves more hassle than it costs.

## Do it in Seed

1. Check your usage on [Home](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/help/new-app-tour), the stat cards show gift orders placed in your selected date range.
2. Go to [Settings](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/help/plans-and-billing) → **Plans & billing** and compare your typical monthly volume against each plan's order limit.
3. If you're a repeat, one-off gifter approaching your limit, click **Upgrade to Starter** (or **Switch to Seed** if you're already on Starter and still bumping the cap).
4. Approve the charge on Shopify's confirmation screen.

## Expert checklist

- You upgraded because of a real, repeating cadence, not a one-off spike.
- Your plan's order limit has enough headroom for a normal month, not just an average one.
- You checked usage before hitting the cap mid-send, not after.
- You picked Starter vs. Seed on volume, not on chasing a feature. Every paid plan has the same features.
