Install Seed from the Shopify App Store and see exactly what permissions it asks for and why.

Seed is a Shopify app: you install it from the Shopify App Store like any other app, and it runs inside your Shopify admin. Installing takes under a minute and doesn't change anything on your storefront until you create and share a campaign.

## Before you install

You need to be logged in to your Shopify admin as the store owner, or as a staff account with permission to install apps. If you're not sure, check with whoever owns the Shopify account.

## What Seed asks for

Every Shopify app has to declare the exact data and actions it needs before you approve the install. Shopify shows you this list on the install screen. Here's what Seed asks for and why:

- **Read products**, so a campaign can show creators the products and variants they're allowed to pick from.
- **Write draft orders**, so a creator's submission can land in your admin as a real $0 draft order instead of you copy-pasting details in by hand.
- **Read orders** and **write orders**, so Seed can show you order status (fulfilled, tracking) and, depending on your Shopify settings, complete an order automatically instead of leaving it as a draft.
- **Read customers** and **write customers**, so each creator who claims a gift gets a proper Shopify customer record tied to their order, instead of every gift landing under one generic buyer.
- **Read files**, so you can pick an existing image from your Shopify Files library (for example your logo) instead of having to paste a URL by hand.

> **Tip:** Two more permissions (writing store content and writing theme code), are optional and Seed only asks for them if a specific feature needs them. You won't see them on the install screen unless that happens.

## Approving the install

Review the permissions, then click **Install app**. Shopify creates the connection and opens Seed inside your admin.

## FAQ

**Does Seed cost anything to install?**
No. Installing is free and puts you on the Free plan, which includes 5 gift orders as a one-time trial. You only pay if you choose to upgrade later.

**Will Seed change anything in my store automatically?**
No. Installing Seed doesn't publish anything to your storefront or change existing orders. You create a campaign and share its link when you're ready.
