Seed has no ShipStation integration. A Seed gift is a normal tagged Shopify order, so ShipStation and 3PLs that sync Shopify pick it up. What to check with your 3PL.

Seed has no ShipStation integration, and you don't need one. A Seed gift is a normal Shopify order with a $0 total and tags, so ShipStation, your 3PL or your own warehouse picks it up the way it picks up every other order. If your fulfillment already syncs from Shopify, your gifting operations plug into it with nothing to install. Two things to check with your 3PL: how it handles $0 orders, and whether it can route on tags.

I run a DTC brand that ships gifts every week, so I'll say what I'd tell my own warehouse. This is how the order looks from the other side.

## Short answer: it is a native Shopify order

When a creator submits Seed's gift link and (with gate-first approval on) you approve it, a $0 Shopify draft order is turned into a real order with a real order number. It is not a draft left sitting unconverted, and it does not go through storefront checkout. From that point it is in Shopify's order list and fulfillment queue like anything else.

Seed does not have its own shipping system. It never contacts your 3PL and has no webhook for you to configure. It watches Shopify's own fulfillment events, so when your process marks the order fulfilled, Seed sends the creator the shipping email with tracking. That works the same whether you fulfil by hand, through ShipStation or through a 3PL.

## What the warehouse sees

| Field | What a Seed gift order has |
| --- | --- |
| Line items | The real Shopify variant, with real SKU, barcode and weight |
| Total | $0.00, from a 100%-off line labelled "Influencer Gift" |
| Shipping line | $0 "Free Shipping" by default; a campaign can change the label and amount |
| Shipping address | Typed by the creator, not copied from a DM |
| Order tags | seed-gift, a campaign tag (campaign: plus your campaign slug), a gift-link tag, and any custom tags you add to the campaign |
| Customer tags | seed-creator, so you can find every creator on file |
| Order note | Campaign name, the creator's Instagram or TikTok handle, phone number and any custom answers |

There is nothing structurally different for a fulfillment tool to detect. Most integrations read line items and the address and ignore price. The ones that don't are the reason for the next two sections.

## Check 1: does your 3PL accept $0 orders?

Ask this before your first campaign, in these words: "Do you process Shopify orders with a $0 total and a 100% discount line, and a $0 shipping line?" Most say yes without thinking. A few warehouse systems or carrier setups reject zero-priced lines, which is why Seed lets a campaign override the shipping line's label and amount. That setting exists because a real integration needed it, so it is worth knowing about.

Some ERP or warehouse systems also choke on the order note. If yours does, a campaign setting can write an empty note and move the note's contents into tags instead. Ask your provider which fields their integration actually reads.

## Check 2: can your 3PL or ShipStation route on tags?

This is the useful one. Gift orders are different from paid orders in ways you may want to act on: a different box, a branded insert, no invoice in the parcel, no carrier insurance, a different service level. Because every gift carries the same tags, you can build one rule and apply it to all of them.

- In ShipStation, build an automation rule that matches the tag seed-gift (or one campaign tag) and set the service, package or a custom field from it. We haven't scripted this for you, because the exact menu depends on your plan, so check ShipStation's own help for automation rules.
- With a 3PL, ask whether their portal can filter, flag or route by Shopify order tag. Some can only read notes or line items. In that case point them at the order note, which is always populated.
- Use a campaign tag for any launch that needs special packaging, so one rule covers that campaign and no other.

## SKU, location and inventory

Inventory draws down the same way it does for a paid order, because the gift is a real order. The picker shows live stock and disables anything out of stock, and stock is checked again when the creator submits. The answers to the other ops questions are in [the six questions ops teams ask before trusting a gift app](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/blog/gifting-app-shopify-ops-questions).

One limit to know: gift orders follow Shopify's normal location rules, the same as any order with no location pinned. You can't force a gift to a specific warehouse from inside the gifting flow. If you split locations strictly by SKU or region, check that Shopify's own routing does what you want.

## International gifts and declared value

A $0 charge and a customs declaration are two separate numbers. The creator pays nothing. The value on the commercial invoice or customs form is whatever you set in your carrier or label tool when you buy the label. ShipStation and most 3PLs let you set a declared value per order or per product, so decide your rule once. We cover it in [gift order customs declared value](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/blog/gift-order-customs-declared-value) and [international creator gifting, shipping and customs](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/blog/international-creator-gifting-shipping-customs).

## What went wrong, and what to watch

- Gift orders in reports. They look like orders with no revenue. Filter on seed-gift, as described in [stop gift orders skewing Shopify analytics](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/blog/stop-gift-orders-skewing-shopify-analytics).
- A zero-priced shipping line rejected by a carrier configuration. Fix with the campaign shipping override.
- A 3PL integration that ignores tags. Use the note instead, or ask for tag support.
- Creators told their gift shipped when the 3PL hasn't marked it fulfilled. Seed's shipping email only goes out on Shopify's fulfillment event, so the email is only as fast as your sync.

## What Seed does not do

There is no direct ShipStation connector, no label printing and no carrier rates inside Seed. If you want a gifting tool that ships boxes itself, Seed isn't it. Our job ends when a clean, tagged order is in your admin, and your existing fulfillment takes over.

## Who should not pick Seed

If your 3PL can't accept $0 orders at all and won't change, a gifting tool built on $0 orders will fight you, and you'd be better off creating a paid order with a discount by hand. If you gift fewer than about 5 products a month and pack them yourself, a hand-made draft order is simpler than any app. If you need one tool for contracts, payouts and discovery, look at GRIN or Modash. Seed has a small number of App Store reviews (5.0 stars on 3), so test it on a trial.

## What to do next

Send your 3PL the two questions above, then run a first campaign of 3 to 5 gifts as a test. Plans are at [/pricing](https://www.seedinfluencers.com/pricing), with a 7-day free trial, and the app is at [apps.shopify.com/influencer-form](https://apps.shopify.com/influencer-form). ## Frequently asked questions

### Does Seed integrate with ShipStation?

No. Seed has no native ShipStation integration and never talks to your 3PL directly. It works because a Seed gift is a normal Shopify order. If ShipStation or your 3PL already syncs your Shopify orders, it syncs the gift orders too.

### Will my 3PL accept a $0 order?

Most 3PL and warehouse integrations key off line items and the shipping address, not price, so a $0 total rarely matters. It is still the first thing to confirm with your provider, because a few configurations reject zero-value orders or a zero-priced shipping line.

### How do I separate gift orders from paid orders in ShipStation or my 3PL?

Use the tags. Every Seed order carries a seed-gift tag and a campaign tag. In ShipStation, build an automation rule or a saved filter on the tag. Many 3PL portals can route or flag by order tag too, which is worth asking about before you launch a campaign.

### Does the order carry a real SKU?

Yes. The line item uses the real Shopify variant ID, so the SKU, barcode and weight travel with it. A warehouse picks it exactly like a paid order, with no size typed into a note.

### What about international gifts and customs?

The creator is charged $0, but the declared value on a customs form is set in your carrier or label tool when you buy the label. Read the customs post linked above before your first international gift.
